We’ve first seen the new Microsoft’s Windows 8 Modern user interface back in September of 2011, but at almost a month after the official launch of the operating system, the software giant is showing off early designs (or mockups) to the public of how they visualized the future of Windows back in 2010.
Jensen Harris, one of the main guys from the Windows design team, at the Windows 8 for UX Week revealed in an hour-plus long video some of the envisioned concepts. The video shows never seen before concepts of what we now know as the Windows 8 UI. It shows a Start screen filled with live tiles, battery, network, date information and no user name. Also, a different charm bar mockup was shown, which resembled a bit to the Mac OS X Dock, with more icons access than what we have today, including media player and snap view.
During the presentation, Jensen Harris talks about how Microsoft approached to overhaul the operating system. He even criticized the calendar and find my friends apps in Apple iOS, which he described it as “cheesy visual effects”. Harris also pointed out that the software maker now pays more attention to details than before.
